Health and Safety Information 

 

GENERAL
1. Right of entry reserved. If The 2012 Star City 2 Surf has to be cancelled due to force majeure there will be no refund of entry fee.


HAZARDS
2. The City 2 Surf route is on footpaths, roads, fields and paths with uneven surfaces. Risks are increased because of the large number of participants, their different skill level and unfamiliarity with the course, which may have areas of earthquake damage.
3. Despite best efforts, participants in The Star City 2 Surf are still at risk of injury, and participate entirely at their own risk.
4. Entrants accept full responsibility for their safety & property during The Star City 2 Surf.
5. Please report any safety concerns to the closest marshal or official.
6. Please obey all instructions from marshals or officials.


COURSE
7. Stay on course at all times. There will be marshals along the route.
8. Although sections of the course are subject to an official road closure during The Star City 2 Surf, vehicles (including Police, Sponsors, St Johns, and other emergency vehicles) will be permitted on the course. Please take care and watch for the presence of vehicles along the route, from both behind and in front, at all times.
9. Only vehicles authorised by The Star City 2 Surf are permitted on the course.


PRE-START
10. Attach your official registration sticker to the front of your running gear. Please ensure you have completed your personal details on the front of the sticker. You will need to wear your registration sticker so that it is visible during the event and you will need to retain this during the prize giving to be eligible for any major or spot prizes.
11. If you have an existing medical condition or allergy that may affect you in The Star City 2 Surf, please print this on your registration sticker.

 

START
12. On Sunday 25th March runners, walkers, and in line skaters will start separately. Skaters and runners are to assemble along the Rose Street end of Centennial Park, Pioneer Stadium, starting at 8.59am. The walkers also assemble at Centennial Park, Lyttelton Street side and join the tail of the runners on the second firing of the gun. The Heart Foundation 6km will start 10am at Opawa School, lower playing fields. Les Mills will be conducting a warm-up session for these participants at 9.40am.


LATE ENTRIES
13. Late registrations for The City 2 Surf with Powerade can be made on the day untill 8.45am in Centennial Park, Pioneer Stadium. Late registrations for The City 2 Surf Heart Foundation 6km can be made on the day untill 9.45am at Opawa School, lower fields.

 

CLOTHING
14. Wear suitable clothing for the conditions of the day.
15. Place your everyday clothes in the plastic bag provided at the start & attach your smaller official number to it. The bag is then to be handed in at the clothing truck & picked up at the entertainment area at the sports fields, Ferrymead Park.
16. The Clothing Truck will be manned from 7.45am onwards. Please dont wait until the last minute. There are only limited changing facilities in Pioneer Stadium, and it is recommended that you come along in your running gear.

CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT
17. All who complete The Star City 2 Surf will receive a certificate of achievement.

 

CHILDREN
18. Children under the age of 10 at the date of the Star City 2 Surf must be accompanied by a responsible adult, at a ratio of 1 adult per 4 children

ON THE DAY ENERGY
19. Do not come along to the start feeling hungry. A suggested breakfast is fruit, juice, cereal, toast bread, butter, jam and tea or coffee, consumed at least 90 mins before the scheduled start time.


REFRESHMENTS AND AMENITIES
20. Water and toilets will be available along the course as well at the finish line.

 

FINISH
21. Your clothing bag will be available for collection at the sports fields,  Ferrymead Park until 12.30pm. Please ensure you have your official number to reclaim your clothes. Unclaimed clothing will be taken to The Star at 12 Venture Place (off Annex Road) The Star accepts no responsibility for lost clothing. Refreshments, food and entertainment are located in the sports fields, Ferrymead Park. Adequate parking & bus services are available from Bridle Path Road.

MEDICAL ADVICE
22. Do not participate if you are sick or have vomited, or had an abnormal temperature of diarrhoea within the past 48 hours.
